Newcastle City Council open a unique housing development for people living with learning disabilities and Autism

Newcastle City Council officially opened Allendale Court, a unique housing development for people living with learning disabilities, Autism, or both.

Allendale Court is one of very few similar in the country and brings different types of service together under one roof, working with the tenants to help them gain the skills and confidence to live independently.

The brand-new accommodation, which is part of The Garth housing development in West Denton, will support 15 people, each of which will have their own private bedroom, en-suite bathroom and vibrant, modern, communal living spaces.

Tenants will be supported round the clock by a dedicated team of workers who will help people develop the skills and confidence to live more independently in Newcastle. Allendale Court is proud to have create a safe, secure and welcoming environment.

The Leader of Newcastle City Council Nick Forbes joined colleagues, tenants of Allendale Court and Councillor Karen Kilgour – cabinet member for health and social care for a celebratory launch of the service on 19th December. There was a short welcome speech and plaque unveiling, with Allendale Court tenant Lucie having the honour of unveiling the plaque.
