Over 20 agencies, charities, council and housing teams working with homelessness within Derby came together on 20 June 2017 at Derby Conference Centre to discuss ways to strengthen their approach to homelessness prevention.
The conference was split into two sessions. The morning session took the form of detailed training on the Homelessness Reduction Act, due to be enacted in April next year.
The afternoon event was opened by Councillor Fareed Hussain, Cabinet Member for Urban Renewal. It was facilitated by Andy Gale, Housing Consultant, and attended by 50 delegates from a range of local organisations and charities.
Responses from delegates will be used to refresh the City’s Homelessness action plan, aimed at preventing homelessness wherever possible and positively assisting those unfortunate enough to find themselves homeless.
Councillor Fareed Hussain said:
“This event gives us the perfect opportunity to sit down with everyone involved in dealing with homelessness in an open and honest way. The people here today have the knowledge and the experience to look at the problems in a holistic way.
We must work together to ensure the services we deliver in Derby are effective at preventing and responding to homelessness, by looking at the needs of the individual.”
